Welcome to the KLSB Community Pantry.

Picture
The KLSB Community Pantry became an idea in October 2019 and established less than 1 month later.
We are based at 17 King Street, Stenhousemuir and we open at various times throughout the week and weekend.
We offer a welcoming approach and treat all members with the dignity that they deserve. KLSB have worked alongside community partners including Stenhousemuir FC, local councillors, local small businesses & various homeless charities and supported accommodation.
We are a non-profit group and we believe that shop local is the best and we will often promote local business through our social media pages.

What we do.

Recently we opened up a new time slot which has allowed us to clear the waiting list and to take on new members.
Members pay a small monthly fee which will entitle them to a weekly visit to the pantry where they can pick up to 10 items of food, household essentials, personal products and / or pet food. Due to Covid-19, we have been forced to offer our members a specific time slot to call in, this time is allocated to one member only meaning that there are no waiting times or queues when the member comes along.
Our stock is colour coded, red & green.
Members are entitled to pick 3 red items, with 1 red item from our freezer and 2 items from the red shelf. Items can include roast chicken joints, family packs of link or square sausage, pizza, burgers, fish fingers, chicken nuggets , tinned pies, curries, meats & cereal etc etc.
Green items are for example, UHT milk, cheese, fresh fruit & veg,  beans, spaghetti hoops, macaroni cheese, dry pasta, pasta sauce, diluting juice, biscuits, washing powder, fabric softener, baby wipes, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant and wet & dry pet food etc.  We also offer  a pre-made ingredient bag with instructions on how to prepare a meal. An example of this is our soup bag which includes all of the ingredient's and instructions on how to make a family sized pot of soup.  When available we can also offer Gregg products, sausage rolls, steak bakes, donuts and cake plus fresh bread. These items are free to our members and are given out on a fair use policy.

Do you need a referral?

We do not operate like a food bank where you would need to have a referral from an authorised body and are only entitled to a small amount of goods for a small period of time. We offer our members a place on the pantry without the need for a referral, however if you have previously been a member you may be asked for a referral to ensure that you are not building a dependency on the pantry, we also ask our members to let us know if their circumstances were to change then to let us know and we can remove them from the pantry meaning that someone else who needs it can move into their slot.
We have emergency slots available to all and invite anyone who has had an unexpected bill to contact us for short term help. We also have space open for emergency  referrals from Support for People and other local agencies.

How much does it cost?

The cost for the pantry is £10.00 per month. This cost entitles the member to call into the pantry once per week and pick items of shopping. Members can pick the date that they wish to pay, meaning that a member can join us but pay for the service when they receive their benefits / wage. As we are a non-profit group all funds received are reinvested back into the pantry meaning that there is always stock available for all.

What other services do we provide?

KLSB work closely with the local schools  where we take referrals from them to help out their pupils families, the support that we offer can range from a simple grab bag at a weekend to a weekly grocery pack supplied on a weekly basis, the size of the pack is determined by the size and needs of each family.  We also offer start up packs to anyone entering into supported accommodation regardless of the reason.   We may also be able to offer support to anyone that requires  mobile phone top ups, household furniture, décor   or carpets.

How to join.

To join the pantry we simply ask that you complete an online form, giving us as much information on your personal circumstances as you feel comfortable with.  Let us know if you would like long or short term support and we will be in touch with you within 48 hours to offer a decision on your application.  We hope that you understand that places are limited in the pantry and not all applications may be accepted.
